memphis championship bbq
Las Vegas, NV

By David Lee

Located approximately seven miles off the strip, Memphis Championship BBQ is a local favorite amongst Las Vegas residents.  However, Vegas’ best kept BBQ secret is slowly becoming known to the world after being featured in Vogue, The New York Times and many other national publications. This octagonal shaped restaurant was founded by the “Legend” of BBQ, Mike.

Ambiance:  A casual environment that will remind you of grandmother’s home-cooked meals.  Dine in your favorite pair of jeans.  Get your hands soaked in BBQ sauce.  This do-anything casual environment is great fun and a refreshing chance of pace from your typically four-star fine dining restaurant.

The Crowd:  An international crowd of Las Vegas tourists and many locals.  Memphis Championship BBQ is located in the suburbs but it slowly becoming known to the tourist crowd.

Food:  American, good old-fashioned homecooking

Memphis Championship BBQ has the best bbq I’ve ever had.  Tender baby back ribs are their specialty.  The smoky aroma and tender meat slowly roasted to perfection will have your taste buds in a frenzy.  Most of their bbq does not even require extra sauce because the flavor is deeply trapped inside the meat.

Sausages are spiced to perfection.  Shredded pork shoulder is extremely tender and melts in your mouth.  The beans are sweet and soft.  Have a deep-fried dill pickle once you’re full and then you’ll be able to eat some more!

The desserts are a homecooked delight—rich apple crisp, peanut butter brownie sundaes and root beer floats.  Order the ‘brick,’ a peanut butter ice cream sandwich with brownies!

If you don’t have time to dine, order through the drive thru.

Drinks:  specialty cocktails and beer

Interesting Tidbit: “The Legend” Mike developed magic dust, a special blend of 18 spices which is sprinkled onto everything

Average Price Range:  $15-$25 a person
