With your own business, some months are good, others are bad.

life in the tech business
An interview with the CEO of an IT firm

Is it hard running your own tech business?
After the demise of the dot coms, people are afraid to take risks on small tech companies.   They rather deal with names they are familiar with.   Plus, any time you're starting out your own business, it's pretty much feast or famine, mostly famine, where some months you're struggling just to get by, and wondering why you got into it in the first place.

What are some other challenges of starting your own business?
Start up capital is a big one.   You'd be lucky if you start up with fifty or a hundred thousand.   Another would be obtaining and maintaining clients, and finding quality employees.

What are some examples where you've lost clients or had trouble maintaining them?
Well, I've only lost one client, but he had a history of meddling, undoing my handiwork.   I   dropped him, so you can't really consider it a loss.   As far as the maintaining aspect, you have to constantly bug clients, because a lot of times even if they have a problem they're too busy to call you.   So you have to constantly keep in touch.

So it's like warm calling?
A little like that.
